A Song which explores the experience of a shepherd on the outskirts of Bethlehem who heard the news that the Messiah had been born.

The air was cold that night a way outside of town
The little fire we'd lit for warmth was starting to die down
The ground was hard and stony underneath our backs
The only sound the bleating sheep as they grazed the hillside tracks

The sky was full of stars - we lay and watched them blaze
A moment's peace to drink it in and dream of better days
And in our bones we felt it - Those days will come to be
The day that brings a brighter dawn when our country is set free.

Then suddenly the night was torn and ripped apart
It seemed the sun came out and sang and fear gripped the heart
And then within the shining the voices came to me
The Christ, the Lord is born this night, He will set his people free

Then it seemed all the stars came down and shouted out god's praise
Whilst we, poor mortals trembled there beneath the angels' gaze

And when we reached the inn and found his lowly place
And looked into the makeshift crib and gazed upon his face
In our bones we knew it - The day had come to be
For Christ the lord was born that night and he will set his people free
