about

During the Trial of Jesus, Pilate's wife contacts her husband to beg him to have nothing to do with the prisoner, as she has had a dream about him - a Dream of a Carpenter.

lyrics

Last night I had a dream, that shook me from my slumber
A man stood there before me
A carpenter by trade
I dreamed He carved a door, from wood of deepest umber
I marvelled when I saw it,
The frame which he had made

The frame stood on it's own, with carvings of such beauty
And yet a light shone through
It spoke to me of home
And through the frame I saw, a land of trees and fruit
A most amazing view
The hills outside of Rome

And then I heard a crowd, their voices warm and loud
All crying for the carpenter who stood before me near
And all as one they roared for the one they all adored
But he stood still and silent, as if he couldn't hear

And in the golden light that poured in through his doorway
I saw his eyes that shone
And till my dying days
I won't forget his face, for in his eyes I saw
The gods looked out upon us
And smiled in his gaze

And then the clamour grew, and all at once I knew
They'd come now for my carpenter, and he would surely die
And hands that looked like claws ripped and flung him to the floor
but still the man was silent, as weeping I stood by

They lifted him and then oh Gods they took and nailed him
spread out between the door posts
He died upon his tree
And all at once I woke, and sleep removed its veil
But still the vision haunts me
It's all that I can see

The door his hands had made became his execution
an altar to our hatred
and still I hear them scream
And now I see a man prepared for crucifixion
The one who meets this fate is
The carpenter from my dream

And only this I plead, oh please that he be freed
My silent friend, my carpenter, For Gods are on his side
I've suffered much this night so I take my pen to write
Oh husband let this man be, he can't be crucified.
